LCHS/LCMS Athletics Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will Liberty Creek High/Middle School be allowed to begin tryouts and athletic practices?

  • A: Under TSSAA rules, a student may only participate in athletics at the school they are currently enrolled. Students are not considered enrolled in Liberty Creek High/Middle School until the current school year has ended. Specific dates for athletic tryouts will be communicated during the spring semester for each sport.

Q: What sports will be available at Liberty Creek next year?

  • A: All TSSAA sanctioned high school sports will be offered. All sports will be played at Liberty Creek next school year.

Q: If an athlete has been rezoned to LCHS/LCMS by the school district, are they eligible to play next year, even if they already have an athletic record established at the athlete’s current school?

  • A: Yes, under TSSAA rules, athletes that have been rezoned by their school district are eligible to play immediately, even if there is an already established athletic record at their current school.

Q: If an athlete goes to LCHS/LCMS out of zone as a result of the lottery and has an athletic record at their current school, will they be eligible to play at LCHS/LCMS next year?

  • A: No. Under TSSAA rules, an out of zone student will be ineligible for one year in the sport or sports they participated in the current year because they have not been rezoned by the school district. The student would be eligible for all sports that they do not already have an athletic record established at their previous school.

Q: Will all incoming freshmen be eligible for sports at LCHS?

  • A: Yes. All incoming freshmen who do not have an athletic record at a high school will be immediately eligible.

Q: May an athlete continue participating in conditioning workouts and/or practice at their current school until LCHS/LCMS athletic teams begin practices?

  • A: Yes. Under TSSAA rules, a current student may participate in any workouts/practices that are available to all students at their current school.

  • A: Participating in spring practice does not affect the student’s eligibility at LCHS.

Q: May a rezoned student participate in spring sports at their current school and be eligible for athletics in the fall at LCHS/LCMS?

  • A: Yes. Under TSSAA rules, student athletes may participate in all athletics at their current school until the end of the current school year. Students will be immediately eligible to continue to play those sports next spring at LCHS/LCMS.

Q: Do TSSAA eligibility rules apply to non-sanctioned sports such as cheerleading, dance and band?

  • A: No. Non-sanctioned sports do not have the same eligibility requirements as other sports. More information will be shared regarding participation in these sports as those directors/coaches are hired.
