Sumner County Board of Education Department of Archives and History

Archivists: Peggy A Morgan and Kay Durham Hurt

Welcome!

Many people, once they have long departed their old school rooms, sometimes wish to return to those days gone by, if only for a moment. With the opening of the Sumner County Board of Education Archives in 1998, numerous citizens have done just that. However, their visits are never brief because of the number of pictures, information, artifacts, and displays available to them. The most often heard comments from visitors are “I could stay all day,” “This is just awesome,” What a jewel,” This is such an interesting place,” “I could come here every day,” or “This is like Christmas.”

Our Mission:

Preservation helps everyone and educates everyone. The archivists, along with the Director of Schools and his staff, are dedicated to preserving the history of the Sumner County School System for future generations by collecting, identifying, processing, and providing access to a wide range of historical school records including photographs, yearbooks, paper documents, old textbooks, artifacts, etc.

Benefactors and Patrons:

Anyone who wants to contribute pictures (or copies), memorabilia, etc. may call the Archives at 615-451-5445. If an archivist is not available, please leave a message.
